Prabal Gurung + Target Inspiration

I recently bought this pair of heels from the Prabal Gurung + Target collection for my spring break trip to Vegas. Having browsed the collection online prior to its release in stores, I thought the items were cool but never intended on buying anything.

But then I unknowingly stumbled upon this awesome pair of heels at Target one day, at a 20% discount and knew I had to buy them. I love the lace-up detail and they’re actually quite comfortable for a $30 shoe. And they look killer too.

I rocked them with a bright coral-colored cocktail dress with my ladies on the Strip, but here are a few more ways to wear them. (I actually own the polka dot sequin skirt and can’t wait to test drive my heels with it!)

Trendy, casual, or dressy – what’s your favorite?

Leather, Snakeskin and Burgundy, oh my!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I am so looking forward to transitioning my wardrobe from summer to fall. Perhaps what’s most exciting about this fall, however, is the fact I’ll be spending it in Italy and other parts of Europe. I can’t wait to see all the European fashion, both on men and women. It will be interesting to compare which styles are the same and which are different. Regardless of how fashionable I may be though, everyone tells me I’ll still stick out as an American. A girl can dream, can’t she?

In spirit of the season and my love for fashion, I’ve pulled together some of my favorite items for fall, pictured above. Let me just sum it up with three words: leather, snakeskin, and burgundy. Three of my favorite things. I love pairing the color burgundy (or “oxblood” as my fashion-mag-obsessed friend calls it) with the massive amounts of black and gray in my fall/winter wardrobe. Snakeskin is a shoe-in, since I love animal print; and last but not least, LEATHER. I’ve always loved the fabric, probably due to my dream of becoming a rockstar in my afterlife. The fact that it’s now back in style for 9-to-5 attire (almost) makes me wish I were continuing at the corporate office rather than headed back to school. I hope it sticks around. Can you guess which of the above items I actually bought? :)

So Long, Summer

It’s official—summer is over, fall is quickly arriving. Just this past week I noticed the significant change in nighttime temperatures and the feeling of fall in the air. My brother is getting his senior portraits taken tomorrow (my how time flies) and then he starts school this week. I myself am headed to Italy to begin my senior year of college in just 10 days. Holy cow.

While browsing the Labor Day sales online, I came across this top from Anthropologie. White linen with a “I wish I were there” beachy scene, it perfectly captures the essence that is summer. Why is it that I always find the coolest summer items as soon as the season is over? Sigh. Life is cruel.

As sad as I (always) am to see summer go, I have to admit I am psyched to dig up my fall wardrobe again. I painted my nails a lovely shade of burgundy today and every time I look at them I’m instantly inspired. So long summer, hello fall!

Soaring in Style

Two weeks ago (meant to blog about this then), Virgin America announced their new uniforms designed by Banana Republic. My first reaction—pure genius. And then I felt guilty for getting excited about it since I work for Alaska Airlines. But all affiliations set aside, this airline-meets-fashion collaboration is such a smart and unique idea.

Complete with classic aviators and an apron emblazoned with a bright red airplane, this 37-piece collection is certainly, in the words of Virgin America, “a breath of fresh air.” Although I’m not a huge fan of red, I can’t help but crave the skinny belt and silk scarf. Oh and did I mention there’s a leather jacket? Sign me up for the next flight attendant position.

Set to hit Virgin terminals and planes on August 8, just in time for the company’s fifth anniversary, Banana Republic is outfitting 2000+ employees including flight attendants, pilots, and gate agents. The collaboration with Banana Republic dates back to 2008. Perhaps the most notable partnership tactic, until now at least, was the in-flight fashion show featuring BR’s Mad Men Collection. My favorite, however, is this simple surprise-and-delight tactic from last Christmas.

No matter the approach, it’s safe to say that both brands are winning with this unusual partnership. Banana Republic definitely thought this move through, as the new designs aren’t just for the Virgin employees. You too can get a taste when BR launches its travel-inspired Fall Collection on August 8th. I’ll be shopping, will you?

DKNY + BaubleBar

I woke up this morning to discover this wonderful collaboration between DKNY and BaubleBar.

For anyone who follows DKNY or BaubleBar, this is pretty exciting news! Launched seven years ago in NYC, BaubleBar is an online jewelry hub that sells unique and up-to-date fashion jewelry from high-end designers. Constantly seen on celebrities, in fashion magazines, and even on Gossip Girl, BaubleBar offers an extensive collection of jewelry and the occasional designer collaboration.

While I have yet to buy anything from BaubleBar, I might just have to splurge on this collection. DKNY nailed it with fresh looks combining pink resin poppies and heavy metal chains plus clothes to match. Girly meets edgy. I love it.

My favorites are the Pink Poppy Bib and Coffee Stripe Chains. Time to start saving my pennies. What’s your pick?
